NAFOW Calgary 2016

NAFOW Calgary 2016

May 5th: CONWY CASTLE TO ABERGWYNGREGYN – about 11 miles.

A very pleasant walk out of Conwy…castle and walled town, boats, even a waterfront red fox that ran out in front of us chased by crows…walked along dune lined sands to the pathway that leads around Penmaenbach towards Penmaenmawr. Here we met Barrie and Gaynor, brother to good friend Brian Lewis in Calgary.  Enjoyed some tea and welsh-cakes and a good chat. Barrie walked with us to see us on the path again. A newly completed and excellent cycle and walking path leading out from Penmaenmawr takes you up and high over the A55 and rail tracks towards Llanfairfechan. Still quite a few holidaymakers around, but the roads appear to be very busy with people returning home after a bank holiday weekend! Beautiful countryside, green pastureland backed by high hills, some criss-crossed with the tracks of quarry workings… great sands and sea vistas.

  1. Isn’t Conway Castle magnificent and beautifully contrasted with the tiniest house. Also lots of lovely pink Valerian – I know it’s almost regarded as a weed in the British countryside, but I still like it. And I’ve never seen a slate fence before.

We’re so enjoying your journey , and it gives us green and spring when it’s still white and brown outside, although there are small signs of spring trying very hard to come.Love as always, Anne
